Science

We aim to foster and capture the children’s natural enthusiasm for science and believe science teaching is most productive when we have found out and built upon the children’s existing ideas. Pupils are frequently challenged by questioning that encourages them to explore and investigate the world around them and their interaction with it. We aim to develop in each child a high level of Scientific skills, through planning and obtaining and considering their evidence. This enables them to find answers to their own questions in a systematic and rational way.

These skills are developed within the broad contexts of life processes and living things, materials and their properties and physical processes (light & sound, forces, electricity, and the earth beyond). Children will cover each area twice in the Junior school, extending their knowledge and understanding when revisiting topic. Lessons happen twice a week and are well resourced to promote scientific learning.
